It was summer of 1996.
I went to New York University (NYU) school department as usual
and stayed in the public workstation lab. I didn't have an office.
NYU computer science department had tight space requirement,
not all Ph.D. students had his office room at that time.
One morning, I walked by to the corridor, Prof. Boppana was at
an office entrance, he said "Hubert, could you help here?"
I walked in and there sit a person smiling and with a mustache.
"This is Prof. Motwani of Stanford University".
"Oh... I know you, I read your books. Randomized algorithm. ", "Oh. you did.",
"I like the book, very good book." I said. We all smiles and quite friendly.
"Could you help him login? I have to run." Prof. Boppana said.
I replied "Ok." and I was thinking, "helping him login?"
It was an old Sun Microsystem workstation, not even a Sun Sparc station.

"what is your password?" Here... there you go.
"How did you do that? genius!"
(I was thinking ... it is just login... no big deal.
It just has this terminal and no graphics user interface.
But he is really a friendly and nice person.)
"Are you visiting?" I asked, "No, I just came here by myself."
"Thank you." he exuberating his shining smiles.
I walked away and thought he was such a nice person but why he used
the word "genius"? It is just login process,
any student (not just graduate student but any student) could do that
if they use Unix system, probably he was just being friendly.

I was so glad I met the author of one of my favoriate books.
